In every update we fix bugs, make improvements to balance, lighting, graphics and more. We also endeavor to add meaningful changes to the way you survive which will add complicity and depth to your experience. So in this update we have added several new items and some change to how you die.
Matches
Each book holds 10 matches once they’re gone, they’re gone. You’ll need to find another matchbook, another ignition source, or risk freezing. Matches aren’t foolproof: some fail to light, and they’re vulnerable to water damage and wind. Also a swim or heavy storm could ruin your supply if it’s not kept dry. So if you start a new game and go to the table and see a book of matches instead of a ferro Rod, that how it should be. The Ferro Rod is now a rare item on every map.
10 matches in each book.
Lighter
A metal lighter offers a step up from matches. It’s more reliable, can double as a weak light source, but it burns through fuel fast.
It has finite fuel so use it wisely.
Oil Lamp
An alternative to a flashlight, the oil lamp casts light in all directions and can be set down to illuminate your surroundings. Perfect for building a fire or marking a temporary camp. But, like the lighter, its fuel is finite.
Old and dented but still works.
Death
Death from malnutrition and dehydration has been abrupt up until now. The only indicator of impending death was the UI bar bottoming out. Which wasn’t great. So one of the team has focused on making some improvements. The result our lead engineer said ‘now when I die it makes me feel sad’ Hopefully you feel the same.
Poison
Prolonged exposure to poison now has a permanent effect, since the body is already weakened by the previous poison, getting poisoned again can caused stronger than normal calorie loses. So eating or drinking something bad again after you have recovered is a bad idea.
Heat
Lots of people were dying of dehydration just by sitting in front of a fire for a couple of minutes. Yes we don’t want you to sit in a cozy cabin that’s all boarded up, with a lovely well maintained fire, full winter clothes on and it be fine. There should be some consequences but we have dialled it down a bit.
