Dev Blog: Open Beta Update 003

The world of Go Wayback! keeps evolving. With Update 3, storms form and move more naturally, survival feels sharper, and exploration gains a new layer with the addition of binoculars each offering its own benefits and trade-offs. As always, we’ve squashed bugs, refined systems, and added tools to help you go further and last longer.

Weather: Clouds on the Horizon

Until now, the weather system has been working well, players enjoyed it, and we were happy too. But one thing felt off: storms arrived too suddenly. In the real world, you sense them coming long before the first drop of rain; the clouds gather, the light shifts, the horizon darkens. We wanted to capture that same anticipation. In this update, storms no longer just “switch on.” You’ll see them forming in the distance and rolling toward you, giving the world a stronger sense of presence and tension. For us, this small change has made a big difference in how alive the world feels, and we’re looking forward to hearing how you experience it.

Binoculars: Seeing the World Differently

Binoculars have always been a straightforward tool in Go Wayback!: one item, one zoom, one way to scout the horizon. Useful, yes, but maybe too simple.

We’ve been working on a new approach. Rather than a single “catch-all” object, we’re splitting binoculars into several distinct types, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. As well as the basic binoculars we are adding the following new types.

Replica - a modest copy, serviceable until the weather strips away its clarity.

Boyscout - sharp in fair skies, but quick to falter when rain or cold closes in.

Military - steady and disciplined, offering range to those willing to adjust with care.

Rangefinder - precise, whispering distances into the unknown, but demanding compromise elsewhere.

View Toy - It has no practical use, only worth the inventory space if you like looking at pretty pictures more than surviving.
